Plenary Council 2020 at the Lakes

This Weekend we start the Plenary Council 2020 process in our parish.

The BIG QUESTION that needs to be forefront  in our minds over this period:
What do you think God is asking of us in Australia at this time?

What is the Plenary Council 2020?
The Plenary Council 2020 is a gathering of the Church in Australia to make decisions for the future. Your voice is important. All people are invited to contribute to the Plenary Council agenda by sharing your experience of faith and of the Church.

Pope Francis has challenged us all to speak out boldly  - “You need to say all that you feel with parrhesia” [boldly, candidly and without fear].  See article on page two for more details

This is what lies at the core of the  Plenary Council 2020 , our response to the challenge put to us by Pope Francis. In this process we are encouraged to speak out boldly and with passion, listen with an open and humble heart.

This challenge is not just for the practising Catholic, but includes  the non-practising, the angry, the hurt, the disenchanted, the contented, the discontented. the young, the old, the marginalised, the excluded, the included — everybody.

The  Plenary Council 2020 process enables us to reach out to the broadest possible audience, capture the stories. These stories and other  information gathered will be processed over 2019/2020 by a broad group of representatives and completed in 2020. The results and recommendations will be presented to Pope Francis and will be binding to ALL Catholic Churches of Australia.  Your voice is essential.

The last time such a plenary was held in Australia was 1937 and then only the clergy was included. This is an opportunity for you to have your say, if you do not take this opportunity then you really miss out on a great opportunity.

The agenda for the Plenary Council will be developed from the “sense of faith” amongst the people of God in Australia. In the next couple of weeks as a parish, we will learn more about how we can make a contribution and also invite others to do so, those not practising, maybe your children, your grandchildren, other family members, acquaintances and friends. We want to make sure that as many people as possible are heard, together we make a difference.
